Work at Home Position – Independent Contractor

***Do not confuse this position with the “Search Engine Evaluator” position. They are separate positions.

Search Quality Judges will need to combine a passion for analysis with an understanding of various online research tools. Applicants must be detail oriented and have a broad range of interests. Search Quality Judges review web related search information and provide quality evaluation on tasks provided.

Responsibilities:

* Research and be able to determine from search results the main intent of query terms.
* Able to recognize (or learn the meaning from research) and categorize entities from popular search queries.
* Understand the difference between specific, named entities and generic terms.
* Demonstrate an understanding of U.S. pop culture.
* Possess knowledge of the search industry to correctly decide what kind of results (news, images, etc.) would satisfy a user’s request.
* Work carefully, pay attention to details, and do not make careless mistakes or misspellings.
* Work at a quick pace without over-thinking each answer.
* Able to communicate the reasoning behind their categorizing decisions.
* Interpret user misspellings and other garbled behavior to decipher what the user is likely to want.

Qualifications:

* Have in-depth, up-to-date familiarity with American social culture, media, and web culture.
* Excellent comprehension and written communication skills in English.
* Broad range of interests, with specific areas of expertise a plus.
* University degree or equivalent experience (degrees in-progress are acceptable). Advanced degrees a plus.
* Excellent web research skills and analytical abilities.
* Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
* Possess a high speed internet connection (DSL, Cable Modem, etc.)

This is a short term project, with the possibility of additional work in the future.

Positions 1: WORD PROCESSORS:

We are seeking individuals who can transcribe audio content of financial results conferences, medical training seminars, group project meetings and other general business meetings. Must type 80+ WPM, have excellent grammar and proofreading skills, have experience with MS Word and Excel, and must demonstrate strong computer literacy.

There is an initial assessment period before any individual is able to complete client work. Therefore, you should have prior experience in transcription. Those most successful candidates will have had work experience creating, reviewing or interpreting corporate financial information (e.g. 10Q, 10K, Annual Reports).

Position 2: LAW ENFORCEMENT WORD PROCESSORS:

Individuals who can transcribe audio content of criminal investigations, internal affairs, and patrol reports. You must have prior experience transcribing for a law enforcement agency (police department, sheriff’s department, etc.), type 80+ WPM, have excellent grammar, outstanding accuracy and proofreading skills, have experience with MS Word, and must demonstrate strong computer literacy.

A full criminal background check is required for individuals completing law enforcement transcription work.

There is an initial assessment period before any individual is able to complete client work. Therefore, it is essential that you have prior Law Enforcement transcription experience and be able to proof your work to be at least 99% accurate.

1. Entry Level Transcriber – Audio (Must have and use a headset)

The work entails listening to audio and video recordings and transcribing the data.

All independent contractors applying for a transcription position must:

***We have two types of legal contracts. One client uses Word Perfect and the other requires the use of MS Word.

***All legal transcribers must be willing to pass a complete background check and be fingerprinted.

***All EXPERIENCED positions require that you have or be willing to acquire a pedal. ENTRY LEVEL may start out without a pedal, but will be expected to obtain one within 30 days if the position works out. (Using a pedal enables you to work up to four times as fast as a typist without a pedal. This allows you to accept and complete more work and likewise earn more money.)

For corporate and financial, we pay between .40 and .75/audio min or /1,000 bytes depending on the client, the quality of your work and your turnaround time. Please understand, pay is determined by audio minute, /1000 bytes or number of pages depending on the client. It has NOTHING to do with how long it takes you to complete an assignment. As an example: A 30 minute audio at .40/audio minute will pay you $12.00 regardless of whether you completed it in one hour or two.

Legal transcription pays per page. The rate varies by client, type of job and turnaround time. Generally, turnaround time is 3-5 days for legal files.

Corporate work includes hearings, earnings conference calls and general transcription. These are all audio files. However, we do have a department that does video transcription.

We take whatever work that comes in. We try to work Monday through Friday during normal business hours and do our best to avoid evenings and weekends. We get both good audio and poor, clearly spoken and accented and work with what we get to the best of our ability.

If your application is accepted, you would need to pass a preliminary test for which there is no cost. It is about five minutes long. If you pass that, you will be sent an IC agreement and a W-9 tax form to fill out.
